What is the most important local election issue?
It’s interesting to see that one of our election rivals have picked up on an issue we raised a while back, the privatisation of our leisure centres.
They are campaigning on it as their one big issue.
I spoke to a BBC reporter today who wasn’t sure if this was the biggest issue in the New Forest.
I told her that I don’t think it is.
In our Liberal Democrat Manifesto, we have made 12 pledges which we think represent the biggest concerns of local people.
If I was pushed, I would say that the top three issues are affordable housing, lack of community policing and the terrible recycling record of NFDC’s Tories.
As always, very interested to hear your views.
If anybody can tell me what the other parties are positively proposing to do, please enlighten me!

VALUES OF THE MAFIA The Times, (always a Conservative supporting newspaper) is full of stories today about the Conservative party which shows it in a very poor light. There are reports of the party accepting very large donations from Russian oligarchs, including a number of current Conservative government ministers. Surprise, surprise, the Russian businessman who…
HEDGEHOG MARKING I have had somebody, living locally, complaining that somebody appears to be marking hedgehogs spines with different coloured paints. I am puzzled why anyone would do this to a wild animal, unless it is for some research purpose. Has anybody seen any examples of this (Totton area), or even throw any light upon…
COUNCIL COLOURS I am sure it is just a matter of luck when it comes to the dominant colour scheme, but I do take off my hat to the Liberal Democrat run Portsmouth City Council for the brilliant flower schemes to be seen around the city.
GDP / HAPPINESS This is a very interesting illustration of global changes in economic fortunes. Even if the United Kingdom stays together (which now seems increasingly unlikely given that Scotland wants to stay in the EU), it seem that we are destined to slip further down the rankings as our traditional trade diminishes. An important…
