Views Please…. Barriers To Recycling…..

Waste Facility petition
Tipping Waste

The conservatives running Hampshire County Council have decided that they want to start charging residents living outside of Hampshire, £5 to use the Household Waste Recycling Centres.

Locally, I don’t think there are many non Hampshire residents that use the Marchwood site.

However, it significantly increases the chance that Southampton City Council will follow suit and start charging Totton residents who use the Millbrook site.

From an ease of access point of view, I think residents in Totton who live north of the railway line mostly use Millbrook, as against Marchwood.

It looks like it will now be necessary to register your vehicle (up to 3 cars) online and charges will be policed by Automatic Number Plate Technology (ANPR), similar to the equipment they have recently installed at Lepe country park.

Fly tipping is a big issue and I am concerned that anything that restricts people from using the recycling centres might well lead to an increase.
