VALUES OF THE MAFIA

The Times, (always a Conservative supporting newspaper) is full of stories today about the Conservative party which shows it in a very poor light.

There are reports of the party accepting very large donations from Russian oligarchs, including a number of current Conservative government ministers. Surprise, surprise, the Russian businessman who has been handing out the cash is looking for a planning permission.

It follows hot on the heels of the Conservative Housing Minister (still in post) who agreed to the swift overturning of a planing decision which saved another Conservative backer £45 million.

Another article relates to civil service jobs being given to former Conservative employees. This again is hot on the heels of peerages and honours dished out to Conservative backers, only last week.

As if this wasn't enough, a further article and the Editorial refers to a Conservative MP who has been accused of rape and under investigation not being suspended by the party, although in almost every other organisation, he would be.

Maybe I have an over sensitive radar when it comes to the Tory party and Tory supporting newspapers, but I cannot help thinking that this is a case of doing all the dirty washing now (whilst there are no elections taking place anywhere).

They say that the electorate has very short memory and calculate that they can lay out the unpleasant stuff now, which will be forgotten later when elections do take place and they offer the usual tax cut bribe.

KEEPING THE FOCUS…

KEEPING THE FOCUS I have been around long enough and had the experience of working in different organisations to know that it can be very hard to keep a consistent focus on what's really important. The Liberal Democrat part of the Town Council pushed really hard to get the Conservative part of the Town Council…

STEADY ON GENTLEMAN…

STEADY ON GENTLEMAN Be very careful, Presidential Candidates, from what I saw of the debate, you are both in danger of giving politics a bad name.

Jumper V Heating...

JUMPER v HEATING…

JUMPER v HEATING I have to say that I favour wearing a jumper (or even two jumpers) over switching on the heating at home. I take a certain masochistic pride in not having the heating on (not particularly shared by my wife), but I really like the thought of saving money and helping save the…

UNDERMINING RESTRICTIONS…

UNDERMINING RESTRICTIONS A most unexpected development…. when you look across social media and TV / Radio interviews and press articles, the politicians rebelling against government restrictions intended to slow the spread of the virus are mostly Conservative back bench MP's. I cannot recall many instances of Labour or Lib Dem politicians refusing to go along…

BUTTERFLY COUNT…

BUTTERFLY COUNT The Annual Butterfly Count received a lot of publicity this year, which is good, along with the number of people who took part in the exercise. The overall headline seems to be a reduction in most species of butterflies but (as always) the detail is much more important. Having everybody count at one…
