Town to spend £20,000 to boost park protection after ‘difficult year’ with ‘trespassing travellers’
THREE POINTS TO ADD
There are three things I can add to this story, following discussion on the Town Council.
I managed to get the ruling group and officers to change their language from describing the problem
as “Travellers” to “Trespassing Travellers”. I successfully argued that the Council has no problem at all with people who choose to have a travelling lifestyle. It is just that travellers become a problem when they damage gates and other property and illegally occupy land.I told fellow Councillors that I regretted having to spend as much as £20,000 of public money on defence measures.
