Totton Hotel

It was only a couple of weeks ago that I supported a planning application to construct a new Premier Inn Hotel on an industrial estate in Ringwood.

Hotels must be profitable concerns at the moment because we now have a further planning application to consider, this time in Totton.

A different company has submitted an application to construct a 24 bedroom hotel on a site that’s immediately adjacent to the British Legion club, (almost opposite the shops that include Argos).

The site is currently used for storage.

I have been asked a few times what I think about the scheme.

I am afraid I cannot offer any comment.

One of the rules for being on the Planning Committee is that you have to have an open mind and must not declare a position until you have sat on the committee and considered all the representations, both from supporters and objectors.

However, people can tell me what they think about it.

The scheme can be found on New Forest District Council’s website. Search Planning applications.

The reference number of the application is 17/11315.

I have looked at the plans. This is just what Totton needs and will remove a long standing eyesore at the entrance to the town. I have written to the DC supporting the project, subject to resolving the concerns about parking in local roads and the safety of the entrance both from the vehicular and pedestrian point of view. Perhaps someone will now propose a high quality convenience store for the town centre. Wake up M. & S. there is an excellent site in Salisbury Road!
