Tory Cabinet Hasn’t A Clue: Can You Help ?
It hasn’t been widely publicised and local Conservatives don’t want you to know about this but the New Forest District Council has been awarded some tidy sums of money from central government for the purpose of “preparing for Brexit”.
In March, the Council received just short of £35,000.
I asked a question at full Council, wanting to know how they intended to spend the money.
They couldn’t answer and it was obvious they didn’t know.
Now we have got to September, they still haven’t spent the money and have no plan to do so.
Embarrassingly, central government has now given them an additional £17,484 pounds, again to spend on Brexit preparations and they still have no idea how to spend the money.
I am told that the Council has helped signpost some local businesses towards government advice on how to prepare for Brexit.
There is also been some officer time, trying to think through possible consequences.
However, the Conservatives are still completely stumped as to how to spend the cash (which is actually taxpayer’s cash, after-all).
Do you have any ideas?
In the absence of any Council need for the money, I thought I would suggest that the money be distributed to local food banks.

I have been pressing Hampshire County Council Highway Chiefs to take more action to help prevent the possibility of further lorry tipping incidents on Rushington roundabout.
