TIPPING POINT FOR TORIES

I have just had a call from a well known local Conservative member who told me that she has had enough and has torn up her membership card.

The straw that seem to have broken the camel's back is the school meals scandal. Questions should be asked.

The whole saga does indeed make an episode of "In The Thick of It" seem tame by comparison.

Conservative Ministers and MP's voted against providing free school meals to children during the holidays and lock down.

They then do a complete U-Turn, but only because of the successful media campaign by Marcus Rashford, the footballer.

It was a bit galling when the Conservative MP, Health Minister, Matt Hancock, then started touring TV studios, crowing about how pleased he was that the children were getting the free school meals. He didn't blink when Piers Morgan reminded him that he had voted against the policy.

Then we find out the contracts were given to Conservative supporting companies who were charging the taxpayer £30 a time for delivering "hampers" comprising of about £4 worth of food.

Boris Johnson says the companies have apologised and seeks to draw a line under the matter.

I will be blunt, this a mix of uncaring incompetence and criminality. Other Conservatives have contacted me, seeking to defend what's going on and claiming that the government aren't in anyway responsible.

I don't think this scandal is going to die down very easily. The fact that it was allowed to happen says a lot of the government we have. There should be a full police investigation and prosecutions, with all the money paid back. Nothing less will do.

PERFECT POSE…

PERFECT POSE I have very limited technical knowledge when it comes to photography but I think there is such thing as having a “good eye” for a shot. This Pied Wagtail was very conveniently perching on a stone plinth and this, together with the back and white background, which matches the colour of the bird,…

‘We have had enough’ – councillors quit group overseeing New Forest leisure centres outsourcing

Another blow to the Conservatives hopes of privatising the Health & Leisure Centres. Of course, the Conservatives have never asked the public what they think about handing over the management of the Health & Leisure Centres. When they set up a Liaison panel of users to look at the issue, the members of the users…
