SO MUCH FOR HALIFAX SURVEY…

There is no chance at all that Fareham is a better place to live than Totton. In terms of location, range of facilities, access to the coast, quality of housing and public services, community spirit, things to do, Totton is literally streets ahead.

When you try and find out how detailed the survey undertaken was, what criteria was used, how many people were asked, what exactly was asked, you begin to appreciate that it's just a press release put out by a building society that wants to attract some free publicity.

Unfortunately, local journalism is in such a dire state, that they will sometimes readily accept "oven ready" stories without checking that there is any valid substance behind the survey.

"WATCH" OUT FOR THIS POT HOLE HAZARD I don' t normally alert people about individual pot holes (where would I stop!)… However, there is a really bad one on the approach to Rushington roundabout, Totton, on the inside lane, as you drive down Spicers Hill. HCC is aware of it (it has some white paint…

FLOODING ISSUES The amount of rain falling in the local area is causing some serious problems. Some of our roads have a lot of standing water on them, so when driving, do take care. I checked out Eling this morning. The tide was low, so no homes flooded yet (as far as I am aware),…

BURGER STORM Most people in Totton, I think, would back my judgement that siting a Burger King restaurant in the centre of Totton is a poor idea, for reasons of increased traffic congestion, air quality and even littering. However, although I agree all of the reasons above are valid, it took me some effort to…

Britain has closed almost 800 libraries since 2010, figures show

WHERE I STAND ON LIBRARIES Maybe some will say that society can do without libraries. Some will say that even though we are one of the wealthier countries, we can no longer afford it. Education and keeping people well informed only stirs up trouble. They argue, everything you can do in a library is more…
