SOUTHERN WATER have issued notice about work to commence at Millbrook Wastewater Treatment Plant.
On Thursday, 4th June, the company will be putting in new equipment to increase the amount of sludge they can treat. Currently they are running at nearly 100% capacity all year round, so this enables them to cope with the increase in population locally here in Hampshire.
To allow them to put this equipment in, and to ensure it is part of their odour control system; they will need to turn off the main odour suppression system for up to an 8 hour maximum – but are very hopeful it will be less than this time.
This may lead to a smell, affecting some residents (depending on which way the wind is blowing).
Southern Water are more than aware of the impact that has on us locally. They will maintain the wet and the dry vapour odour neutraliser systems.
With some luck the smells may stay in the gas space of the sludge tanks and we won't notice anything different – with no luck we may have a temporary stink on our hands. The equipment being turned off is the one that failed a few summers ago.
