Smart Meter Victory
I put some energy into a some case work involving electricity meters that serve the flats in Parkside, Hounsdown.
Some residents wanted to have energy saving smart meters fitted.
However, they were put off by a run around they were getting, with the electricity meters not being clearly labelled, so that the utility companies didn’t know which meter related to which flat.
Worse still, when I tried getting the electricity meters labelled, I was told that “it wasn’t a District Council issue” because the meters were owned by the utility companies and that the residents would have to pay £40 for somebody to label each meter…. so much for encouraging residents to save energy!
Fortunately, common sense has prevailed.
I contacted the Portfolio Holder for Housing and outlined the situation.
She has come back to me today and confirmed that all of the meters will be labelled and as part of the ongoing work, will look to do this in all such blocks in the District…. Result!
Thank you Councillor Jill Cleary.

I have spoken at length to Councillor Neville Penman this morning. He was good enough to brief me on how the meeting went last night, supported by police officers, about crime and anti-social behaviour.
The Press seem to have got hold of some secret papers confirming that the Conservatives at Hampshire County Council have decided to increase tax for the next financial year by a further 2.99%.
