Silent Soldier Update

Silent Soldier
Silent Soldier

I am very much hoping that Marchwood Parish Council won’t, after all, have to pay the £2000+ bill quoted to erect a Silent Soldier and Suffragette on HCC land.

It appears that the online system that HCC has introduced for registering a request automatically generates an indication of the sort of cost that applies to commercial companies wishing to apply.

At this stage, it looks like the system isn’t able to distinguish between a Parish Council doing something for community benefit and commercial operations, which are chargeable.

It would also appear that staff at HCC have not been briefed, or any thought given to this situation arising.

I haven’t yet heard back from Cllr Rob Humby (it is the weekend), so fingers crossed, all will be sorted and common sense will prevail!
