SHOULD WE BE SURPRISED OR EVEN SHOCKED?
The announcement by Philip that he is gay, probably is a bit of a surprise. We think we "know" people, even celebrities and we make assumptions based on how they behave on TV and the little bit we learn about their private life from magazines and newspapers.
Of course, his sexuality isn't something that makes a jot of difference to anyone except his family and immediate circle of friends. It probably will take some adjustment for him and them.
I do admire the courage he displayed in making the announcement. It's much better to let people know the reality rather than have to lead a "double life".
It's 2020 and I am so pleased that in my lifetime people can be true to their sexuality without being judged as a lesser person. Back in the day, Phil might even have been sacked. It's one way that society has got better.
