School Children Remember
It was a pleasure to have joined in a ceremony today, where school children were present at the war memorial in Totton, to particularly mark and acknowledge the sacrifice of all those that died in the First World war as we approach the 100th anniversary.
Virtually all the local schools were present, including pupils with special needs, from New Forest Park school.
The local MP made a short speech, rightly saying that wars represented a failure of politics. However, he only credited NATO with keeping the peace in Europe the last 70 years.
He could have equally mentioned the EU, which was the specific intention of the founding fathers of the organisation.
Both organisations have played an important part, whether you consider that big sticks or talking and compromise are the most effective means.
What Dr Lewis and I will agree upon is that we can have political discourse and disagreement all because of the sacrifices made to protect our democracy.
