Rushington Roundabout

Better news to report regarding my campaign to improve road safety at Rushington Roundabout.

I complained bitterly that Hampshire County Council had failed to make any improvements since the last lorry tipping incident.

Lorry at Rushington Roundabout

To be fair to Hampshire Highways bosses, they listened and have agreed to accelerate the promised signage.

More importantly, instead of telling me that they would merely “monitor the situation”, they appear to have taken on board my point that monitoring really means waiting for another lorry to tip over.

They have now agreed to carry out a feasibility study on moving the pavement away from the roundabout, to give pedestrians and cyclists a chance of avoiding being crushed if the worst happens.

I sometimes find myself speculating whether I would be so persuasive without the power of social media behind me… I rather suspect not!
