Retail giant criticised for continuing to sell disposable barbecues in New Forest
GOOD JOB JACK
I think my Liberal Democrat colleague over in Pennington, Jack Davies, is doing a good job by drawing attention to this Co-Op store in the New Forest that's continuing to sell disposable barbecues.
There is a complete ban on using temporary barbecues anywhere in the New Forest. Nearly all retailers have willingly agreed not to sell them. The risk of fires is only two real. The Fire Service had to deal with two incidents just yesterday. New Forest Rangers are often having to extinguish this items which are being left behind by people using them illegally.
Of all retailers, I am surprised that the Co-Op haven't seen the sense in supporting this campaign to stop our New Forest from catching fire. Normally the Co-Op are right out front in demonstrating social responsibility.
I can only think that this is just down to the poor judgement of a single Shop Manager. I hope that the publicity will prompt a re-think. It's bad for the Co-Op and potentially a disaster for the New Forest.
ONE of Britain's biggest retailers has been criticised for continuing to sell disposable barbecues in the New Forest – despite the risk of wildfires.

BEAVER DELIGHT I am delighted at today's news that beavers have been granted permanent status in the UK. Beavers are a keystone species. What they do to habitats has a very positive impact, benefiting biodiversity. I am pretty sure that there are parts of the New Forest that would benefit in a similar way to…
VALUES OF THE MAFIA The Times, (always a Conservative supporting newspaper) is full of stories today about the Conservative party which shows it in a very poor light. There are reports of the party accepting very large donations from Russian oligarchs, including a number of current Conservative government ministers. Surprise, surprise, the Russian businessman who…
HEDGEHOG MARKING I have had somebody, living locally, complaining that somebody appears to be marking hedgehogs spines with different coloured paints. I am puzzled why anyone would do this to a wild animal, unless it is for some research purpose. Has anybody seen any examples of this (Totton area), or even throw any light upon…
COUNCIL COLOURS I am sure it is just a matter of luck when it comes to the dominant colour scheme, but I do take off my hat to the Liberal Democrat run Portsmouth City Council for the brilliant flower schemes to be seen around the city.
GDP / HAPPINESS This is a very interesting illustration of global changes in economic fortunes. Even if the United Kingdom stays together (which now seems increasingly unlikely given that Scotland wants to stay in the EU), it seem that we are destined to slip further down the rankings as our traditional trade diminishes. An important…
