PUMPKIN FISHING

I spent the morning learning about a relatively little known sport called "Pumpkin Fishing".

Located near Nursling, an expert was on hand to guide me through the process. I was amazed at how much skill was involved in selecting the right size hook in order to pick up the pumpkin you are targeting.

It was all the more difficult once you had hooked a pumpkin. They are surprisingly heavy. It involved some hard work, reeling in a pumpkin that kept rolling one and then the other.

At the moment EU regulations dictate that you are only permitted to take one pumpkin home with you. However, I am delighted to say that at the end of the year, when we have officially left the EU, it will be possible to take home as many pumpkins as you wish. It's great to have finally identified a benefit from leaving.

UNDERMINING RESTRICTIONS…

UNDERMINING RESTRICTIONS A most unexpected development…. when you look across social media and TV / Radio interviews and press articles, the politicians rebelling against government restrictions intended to slow the spread of the virus are mostly Conservative back bench MP's. I cannot recall many instances of Labour or Lib Dem politicians refusing to go along…

BUTTERFLY COUNT…

BUTTERFLY COUNT The Annual Butterfly Count received a lot of publicity this year, which is good, along with the number of people who took part in the exercise. The overall headline seems to be a reduction in most species of butterflies but (as always) the detail is much more important. Having everybody count at one…

FERAL BIRDS…

FERAL BIRDS There has been a large family of Feral pigeons that live in and around the bridges at Redbridge for as long as I can remember. They often like to sunbathe on the roof of nearby buildings. Interbreeding means that there are also quite a lot of interesting colour variations.
