Protesting and Thuggery

The right to peaceful protest is a really important part of our democracy, but is is sometimes abused by people who have no respect at all for democracy.

The scenes in London involving right wing thugs, supporting the idea that the racist, Tommy Robinson, is above the law are pretty shocking.

They might well be totally misguided in their beliefs, but have the right to protest.

However, they have absolutely no right at all to be attacking the police, causing injury, especially to a police medic.

What is particularly upsetting is that the police have fewer resources than ever and are facing greater challenges from the rise of knife crime and robberies.

They have more important jobs to do than dealing with brainless thuggery.

The right wing organisations made no progress at all via the ballot box and such behaviour will only ensure this remains the case for a generation.
