Peaceful Protest

Peaceful Protest
There was a heart wrenching protest, led by singing children, some pre-school age, about the consequences of failing to tackle climate change today.

I stopped and listened to them, before entering the Council Chamber in Winchester.

I am pleased to report that there was cross party support for the Liberal Democrat motion that the authority now treats tackling climate change as an emergency.

The authority will now put urgent action plans in place to address the issue, both within the County Council and for everyone living in Hampshire.

Everyone seems to agree just how real the problem of accelerated climate change is and that we are facing the possibility of extinction as the planet dies.

There is consensus amongst the scientific community that we will reach “tipping point” in about 10 years unless we fail to act.

I am personally totally committed to taking action.

It might mean some sacrifices to the way we have got used to living, but there is no choice if we care about the next generation.
The children were a great way of reminding us about that.
