Opening The Eling Experience
The Tide Mill and Heritage Centre, including the Cafe´at Eling will be undergoing a “soft opening” today, in advance of a formal opening ceremony on Tuesday, April 24th.
I think that the main reaction amongst local people will be one of great relief that the facility is finally open.
It is something to celebrate and I don’t want to spoil that.
I am very sure that the much enhanced Eling experience will be enjoyed by thousands of people in the coming months and years.
I am calling for a review to look at what happened.
It is right that there should be a review into the quality of project management.
The delay has increased the cost of the project.
It has deprived the community of the facility for two years longer than necessary.
Staff working at the mill and heritage centre were let go much earlier than was necessary.
I think all major projects should be followed by an honest review, to learn any lessons and hopefully avoid them happening again in the future.
