NIGHT DRIVING : ARE YOU AN AVOIDER?…
NIGHT DRIVING : ARE YOU AN AVOIDER?
I have been struck (not literally) by a number of people who tell me that they purposely avoid driving at night.
I must admit, I hadn't really thought too much about it being too risky but those really nasty incidents that we saw with horses and donkeys getting hit in the New Forest has got me thinking more about the issue.
A lady wrote to me about the New Forest incidents saying that she is unwilling to drive, particularly because of the much brighter headlights fitted to cars these days, dazzling drivers, even when "dipped".
I also see many, many, cyclists riding at night without lights on the bike and sometimes asking for trouble, wearing nothing but dark clothing.
It is fair to say that eyesight deteriorates for many people as they get older. I am slightly embarrassed to admit that I was prompted to get my eyesight checked many years ago when I drove the car into a central island on a dark night, that I simply didn't see. some people can see well enough during the day, but struggle more at night time.
When I was regularly visiting a relative in Fordingbridge Hospital, it was quite scary, driving across the open forest at night time. I would really welcome cars being fitted with front scanners and automatic braking systems.

PERFECT POSE I have very limited technical knowledge when it comes to photography but I think there is such thing as having a “good eye” for a shot. This Pied Wagtail was very conveniently perching on a stone plinth and this, together with the back and white background, which matches the colour of the bird,…
Another blow to the Conservatives hopes of privatising the Health & Leisure Centres. Of course, the Conservatives have never asked the public what they think about handing over the management of the Health & Leisure Centres. When they set up a Liaison panel of users to look at the issue, the members of the users…
