Next Manifesto Idea – Social Enterprise

repairing - social enterprise
repairing - social enterprise

My Facebook Page is proving to be a useful tool for testing out ideas for the next Liberal Democrat manifesto.

I am grateful for all the comments of previous ideas put forward on such things as local, affordable housing, council tax, young persons discounted bus travel, reducing the numbers of Councillors.

The next idea is that the Council should initiate a social enterprise, aimed at providing a service, repairing things.

We live in a throwaway society.

Wouldn’t it be good if we could create some jobs and skill people up by the provision of a service that fixes your broken lawn mower, your computer or household item?

The Council wouldn’t directly run the operation but would have a supportive role, perhaps with some initial funding to get things up and running.

Hopefully, we could attract some volunteers with particular skills to train up others.

It could become a bit of a community hub that delivers a really useful service….

Thoughts please?
