New Car Technology and the New Forest

56 New Forest Animals Killed In 2017
56 New Forest Animals Killed In 2017

The announcement today that all new cars will be fitted with devices that make sure they keep to the speed limit, coupled with emergency braking systems, promises to be great news for the New Forest.

One of the worst aspects of our beloved National Park is the annual toll of carnage on the roads, affecting everything from ponies, cattle, donkeys and deer.

We all know that it is difficult to provide adequate speed enforcement on New Forest roads, especially at night time.

Of course, it will be a few years before the majority of vehicles on local roads are fitted with the technology.

In the meantime, it will be necessary for the driver education work and enforcement to continue, as best we can.
