Lorry chaos “nightmare” as HGVs queue to enter 40-acre container depot near Southampton
ELING WHARF LORRY ISSUES
I regret that a problem that arose late last year seems to have occurred once again.
The issue is pretty simple. Associated British Ports are using the wharf as a container overspill area. The docks are at full capacity and once you have issues with large ships not coming into port because of bad weather), the sheer volume of containers is difficult to manage.
Having a long queue of lorries backing up onto the A35 is a potential hazard, as well as the unfortunate impact of congestion in our High Street, including air quality.
I know that the Port Director is aware of the problem. I am encouraging him to have a re-think about how they manage these situations from now on.
HUGE lorries queueing up to enter an industrial site in a Hampshire town are causing traffic chaos on neighbouring roads.
