LOCAL PLAN IS APPROVED
It was an extraordinary meeting of New Forest District Council tonight.
Several Conservative Councillors expressed upset and frustration that the Conservative government were imposing house building development on the New Forest, often without the necessary infrastructure being in place, but nevertheless, all of them followed the party line and voted in favour of the Local Plan which will mean housing allocated onto green fields against local opposition.
The Liberal Democrats did at least manage to stimulate some debate, with many of us arguing that we need more homes built, but should not do so, without the necessary infrastructure (road and railway service) being in place to support it.
I told members that whenever I feel I am being bullied, my response is to dig my heels in and defy the bully.
At least, (at my insistence) there was a recorded vote, so that people can see who supported the plan to build houses without the infrastructure and those that were against.
The Conservatives have greater numbers on the Council, so have forced the local plan through. I guess they will say one thing locally to their electors but always follow the party line for fear of being de-selected.

SITTING DUCKS We have all heard of the expression "sitting ducks", but I have often thought about ducks doing this. These Tufted ducks seem to be asleep, just floating around on the surface of Testwood Lake. If I was a duck, I would probably look for cover, somewhere I could hide from being targeted by…
IS THIS A RECORD? I spotted ten magpies, together in trees overlooking the Rumbridge Street car park this morning. I got this shot to prove it. I have not seen more than five or six together beforehand, let alone got a shot of it.
TO ASK OR NOT TO ASK…. THAT IS THE QUESTION….. It's interesting to see the different approaches taken by neighbouring local authorities when it comes to setting the council tax. In the New Forest, the ruling Conservatives don't make much effort at all to engage with residents before they set the budgets for the year…
