ELING IS PART OF TOTTON, NOT MARCHWOOD
I had another attempt at persuading the Conservative administration at New Forest District Council today that their plans to change the ward boundaries, combining Eling with Marchwood, don't make sense.
Eling has always been very much part of Totton. Simply pretending otherwise, in order to round up voter numbers will mean that Eling gets separated from the rest of Totton and that the two District Councillors elected to represent Marchwood will be looking after Eling too.
I think the two communities are very different, separated geographically and governed by two different Parish / Town Councils.
The Conservatives are pressing ahead with their own proposals to the Boundary Commission. The only thing I was able to do was to get the minutes of the meeting to record that their ideas are not supported by either of the two District Councillors that represent Totton South (myself and Cllr Caroline Rackham).
I also expressed the very strong view that almost everyone who lives in Eling would agree that they consider they have much more in common with the community of Totton than they do with Marchwood.
It will be the Boundary Commission who have the final say, not New Forest Conservatives. I can only encourage people to join me and make a direct representation to the Boundary Commission, if you feel as I do.

CLIMATE CHANGE EMERGENCY I know a lot of people are very concerned about climate change and what local politicians are doing about it. To be entirely honest, the situation in Hampshire is a bit mixed. Some politicians understand the seriousness of the problem and are acting upon it, whilst others are making the right noises,…
MY WEATHER WARNING I don't normally issue personal weather warnings, but I just spotted this anvil shaped cloud approaching Totton. An anvil cloud is made of ice particles; these frozen particles form in the highest levels of thunderstorms or cumulonimbus clouds. The cool shape that you see with the flat top is due to rising…
RAILWAY QUESTION It's possible that if you live in Totton, Marchwood or further down the Waterside, you may get a call from a survey company asking if you would use a passenger service down the Waterside line. Two important factors are frequency of service and cost. It looks most likely that it will be a…
TOTTON CAR PARKING CHARGES Well that's it… the long running agreement that lasted over two decades, providing free car parking in Council run car parks in Totton Town Centre seems to be no more. At a meeting of the Policy & Resources Committee of the Town Council tonight, I was amused to hear local Conservative…
BAT ALERT I have had contact from a member of Hampshire Bat Care group who informs me that there seems to be bats roosting in the former Testwood Club building, Salisbury Road, Totton. The building has been purchased by New Forest District Council who, I understand, plan to demolish the building and develop housing on…
