Job for life

It would be fascinating to know how such an overwhelming majority was secured. Apparently, there were only three people who abstained, one spoilt ballot paper and two who voted “against”.

On might be forgiven for suspecting that there was enormous pressure to vote in favour.

In recognised democracies it is generally viewed as unwise to allow one person to carry on in the top job for too long.

Either President Xi is widely believed to be a fantastic leader or there will be coercion involved with massive consequences to anyone who chooses not to follow the party line.

You have to have respect for the two people who voted against and the three who abstained. I think they have acted heroically, especially since it seems the votes can be traced.
