Illegally parked? New council powers can see your car towed, with a £150 retrieval fee
TOW AWAY POWERS?
The thousands of people that descended on Bournemouth Beach this summer, with many motorists illegally parking nearby, has prompted the local authority there to adopt special powers to tow away cars.
This new power is being trialled. I will be watching this with interest. I get really frustrated by a small number of motorists here that completely disregard the needs of pedestrians, including those using mobility scooters, wheelchairs and buggies by selfishly parking across pavements leaving no room for them to get by.
I have always thought that a tougher line should be taken against motorists who don't understand that pavements are for pedestrians, not for car parking.
If it is successful in Bournemouth and Christchurch, I have in mind trying to persuade the Conservative run District Council here to follow suit. What do you think?
ILLEGALLY parked cars can now be towed away under new powers introduced across the Bournemouth, Christchurch and Poole area.

BUSINESS DOMINATED WATERSIDE In my nightmares, I have a vision of Totton and the Waterside being completely dominated by business interests, at cost to the environment and the people that live here. We already have a very substantial amount of commerce and industry here, including a lot of large facilities that serve the nearby city…
NEEDED IN TOTTON I very much agree with the need to provide secure cycle parking facilities. In particular, Totton train station has one of the worst records in the UK for cycle thefts. It's a huge barrier to anyone thinking of leaving an expensive bike there, whilst taking the train. On the planned list of…
