Health & Leisure Centre Plans
This photo was taken tonight at a meeting at Applemore.
It was to consult with the public over Conservative plans to privatise management of the five Health & Leisure Centres in the New Forest.
As you can see, it was quite a turn out.
I think the Conservative Cabinet member in charge of the Leisure portfolio was taken aback.
He said nothing. He just held the microphone.
Almost everybody seems to think that privatisation of the management of our Leisure Centres would be a bad idea.
There were concerns expressed about the security of all of the different user groups that use the centres.
Obviously a commercial concern will be operating our public assets to make a profit and we simply don’t know whether use, as now, can be guaranteed.
The consultation roadshow moves to Totton Health & Leisure Centre this Wednesday, 4th December at the pretty inconvenient time (for most people) of 12.15.
I don’t expect the turn out will be anything like as strong.
For many, this will be the first you heard about it.
I will pop along and listen and report back.
Happy to ask an questions on your behalf, if you wish me to.
