FAT CAT INSULT
I did my duty and attended the Annual meeting of the Totton & Eling Town Council tonight.
In the event, I was given a position on the top table and asked to give a short verbal report as Hampshire County Councillor.
I was pleased to see a handful of residents who turned up. The questions are always the most entertaining part of the evening.
At one point, I was accused, together with my Town Council colleagues, of being a high salaried "Fat Cat".
We take such insults on the chin. Actually we get a monthly allowance of £80 for the Town Council job… £60 once tax is deducted. So, it works out at about £2 a day. How much is a cup of coffee? I know, you would prefer a latte to a Councillor any day….
I am very aware that there are many people who undertake work in the community for no financial reward at all, whether they be school governors, charity Trustees, or organisers of community events. Many Councillors, (including myself) also undertake such unpaid roles.
I would be frankly surprised if many people see getting elected and then working as a Councillor as "easy money", but there we are.

TRUTH ABOUT THE TRAIN GATES With all the renewed interest in restoring the Waterside Passenger railway service, a lot of people have contacted me and said that they are puzzled as to why I am supporting something that has the potential for making the waiting times at Totton train gates even longer. I live in…
BUSINESS DOMINATED WATERSIDE In my nightmares, I have a vision of Totton and the Waterside being completely dominated by business interests, at cost to the environment and the people that live here. We already have a very substantial amount of commerce and industry here, including a lot of large facilities that serve the nearby city…
