Conservatives have a massive problem when it comes to the Euro elections later this month.
If they had done as they promised, we wouldn’t be involved in them.
I have seen their election literature which makes the ridiculous plea that people should vote Conservative because “Only the Conservatives can deliver Brexit”.
Mrs May failed to get a majority at the General Election.
Even her own MP’s think that she got a bad deal and won’t vote for it.
She has now resorted to pleading with Jeremy Corbyn to help her out.
I think the recent local elections provided a stark warning to the Conservatives about the direction we are being taken in.
Again, laughably, some Tories are choosing to interpret this as “Just get on with Brexit”.
They haven’t seen the mood of the country shift towards Remain.
I have heard from so many Conservative voters, activists and Councillors that they won’t be campaigning or voting for the party at the Euro elections.
It looks like the turn out will be pathetically low, with those determined to “leave at any cost”, likely to vote for the new Nigel Farage outfit that has no policies and hopes to ride on the wave of protest.
The Liberal Democrats will be standing candidates and campaigning on the basis that it would be best to stay in the EU.
At the very least, there should be a People’s Vote to determine what people think of any deal now that the facts are known.
This isn’t an undemocratic stance, refusing to acknowledge the original referendum result, but a recognition that the May 2016 vote didn’t determine how we leave and that the past three years has shown up divisions in Parliament that can really only be sorted out by going back to the voters.
