Did New Forest Conservatives deceive us on recycling claims?
At the last meeting of New Forest District Council, I was the only member of the Council who challenged them over their terrible record on recycling.
They are one of the worst performing authorities in the country.
The cabinet member, responding to my question about what they proposed to do about it, didn’t answer my question, but suggested that I write about the issue more on my Facebook Page.
However, she also claimed that the recycling rates had recently improved by 2%.
I noticed, during the election by-election campaign, that the same claim was made in the conservative party literature.
It’s clearly a figure which is being used to try and portray the performance as slightly better than the worst in the country.
However, forgive me if I have a slight nagging doubt about this apparent 2% increase in recycling rates.
Could it possibly be that the figure only rises by 2% if you include green garden waste?
Most of us wouldn’t be unduly surprised if the volume of garden waste starts to increase in the spring and summer months.
To portray this entirely natural annual event, as a Conservative achievement would be entirely consistent with other Tory claims made during the election… would it not?
Which ever we you cut it, the Tories are boasting about “bouncing around the bottom of the league”.
