Crime on the agenda as voters go to the polls

update on crime
Hampshire Police - for illustration purposes only

With elections taking place in many parts of the country, (but not here), the issue of crime and policing is being talked about quite a lot.

Just today, I spoke to two journalists about crimes that have occurred in the town.

I really think that the combined impact of the government’s early release of prisoners together with cuts in numbers of police officers is having a significant impact on communities in Totton, less so in the more rural areas.

News about crime travels very fast on social media these days.

This can create an impression that it is a more frequent occurrence than is actually the case.

However, I think it is fair to observe that a very small minority of people’s criminal activity is impacting on a lot of people.

Hampshire Police have done a great job using Facebook and Websites providing information and dealing with concerns.

This site is a particularly good one.

You can see details of crimes reported month by month in the street where you live, or nearby.
