CLARIFICATION OF NEW CAR PARKING CHARGES
There has been a lot of confusion about the new parking charges being imposed by the Conservative run New Forest District Council in Totton Town Centre.
This graphic isvery helpful in explaining what’s currently happening.
At the moment it looks as though the only car parking spaces being used to any degree are the “free” five hour ones, offered by the Town Council.
The District Council ones are now like the Rumbridge Street car park, which is largely empty most of the time, because people choose to park in nearby roads and even across pavements.
Nobody at the District Council took on board the views of residents and local businesses before doing this and I suspect the situation will get a whole lot worse as the restrictions ease and people use cars more.
A strong performance by the Liberal Democrats against the Conservatives at the local elections may help prompt a change of policy. We will see!
Hopefully this makes sense, if you have any questions please ask. Car parking charges now apply at all NFDC car parks in Totton. Totton Town Council will be fitting barriers to the Memorial and Testvale carparks in April to restrict parking to 5 hours maximum. There will be a £10 overstay charge. There is no weekday longstay parking in either the Memorial or Civic Centre car parks. NFDC refused to suspend charges for 6 months at their February meeting, please see item 123 on the attached minutes https://democracy.newforest.gov.uk/documents/g6963/Public%20minutes%2025th-Feb-2021%2018.30%20Council.pdf?T=11

** VIRTUAL MEETINGS LAW NEEDED ** One positive thing to have come out of the pandemic is the collective realisation that it is perfectly possible to conduct most meetings by means of technology. Over the past 12 months, I have attended over four hundred meetings using Zoom, Microsoft Teams and Skype. It was all a…
* * GENTLE CAMPAIGN ** I have participated in scores of campaigns over the years, usually successfully. Even if you don’t win, you can recruit new people and raise the profile of the party and the policies we pursue. Next week, on Thursday 6th May, elections will take place for seats on Hampshire County Council…
** CONSERVATIVES’ WASTE OF SPACE ** A tale of two car parks. Two car parks in Totton Town Centre. Photographs taken at 10am this morning. The Conservative controlled New Forest District Council car park is almost completely empty. It’s not earning any money. It’s persuading shoppers to go elsewhere. It’s tempting motorists to park on…
