Chairman of the National Park
Yes, it is true… I was voted in as Chairman of the New Forest National Park Authority this week… but only for two minutes!
The Authority has greatly benefited from the Chairmanship of Oliver Crosthwaite-Eyre in recent years.
However, at the Annual General Meeting it is necessary for him to step down from Chairing the meeting and for somebody to take over proceedings, asking for a nomination.
This year, I had the pleasure of sitting the seat as Interim Chairman of the National Park for a very short time.Oliver was re-elected.
My lack of competence and political leanings mean that I will never become a full-time Chairman, but I joked with colleagues that I was going to make the most of my two minutes in charge!
I am grateful that they decided to re-elect me as Chairman of the Resources, Audit and Performance Committee for a further year.
The staff make things easy for me but I am proud to have played a small part in helping deliver so many good things for the New Forest, including inward investment of £14 for every £1 that we spend, protecting and enhancing the area.
