There is always a bit of “argy bargy”, claim and counter claim on the run up to elections.
I have seen suggestions on another Totton Facebook site that Councillors (perhaps including myself) are claiming that they have assisted with the local carnival when this isn’t really so.
As I think many people know, I have lived in Totton for over 60 years and have had some involvement with the carnival for about half a century, (although not every single year).
I have taken part, dressed up as a circus ring-master, Robin Hood and Big Bird.
I have been a carnival float judge.
I have grant aided the event on several occasions. I have worked as a volunteer on the security team overseeing the necessary road closures.
I also approve the road closures in Totton South each year.
I know that other Councillors have also given up time and helped with the enormous community effort that goes into the event.
It’s perfectly fair and reasonable for candidates to mention what they have done for community events in Totton, whether it is the carnival, lantern parade, fun days or christmas lights.
I always say to candidates of all political colours, don’t hesitate to blow your own trumpet at election time… it’s your chance to promote what you do for the community!
Of course, not all of them have actually done anything to tell you about…
I took this photo at the last carnival….
