COVID-19 new Govt guidance : NFDC service changes

NFDC CAR PARKS

Having reviewed new Government guidance issued (11 May 2020), the changes to NFDC services are as follows:

Coastal /seafront car parks
From Wednesday 13 May NFDC coastal (amenity) car parks will re-open for use, with cashless payment only.
Only Parking Clocks and Ringo payment will be accepted. This is to remove the need to come into physical contact with pay machines.

We remind anyone using our car parks to consider carefully the need for their journey and to continue social distancing and good hand washing.

Parking clocks can be bought online at http://newforest.gov.uk/parkingclocks

This decision has been taken in light of latest government advice and to support the wellbeing of our residents who wish to exercise and visit outdoor spaces, however we will review this decision to re-open car parks if it is felt that people are not following the latest guidance.

Please note: Government latest information states that you can travel to outdoor open spaces irrespective of distance, but to stay at another home is not allowed. Hospitality and leisure businesses are unlikely to open before July. Attractions, pubs, restaurants and hotels are closed, along with public toilets.

Town and village car parks remain open and charging will not be reintroduced to continue to support volunteers being able to shop for the vulnerable.

WHERE COMMUNITY REALLY MATTERS There are some great things going on in Totton & Marchwood, turbo-charged by volunteers who organise all sorts of things that build a community and enhance the quality of life for everyone. I am always a believer in looking outside the area for a bit of inspiration and so am grateful…

AUGUST PLAN FOR LEISURE CENTRES A lot of people have asked me about the re-opening of the five District Council Leisure Centres. They have all been mothballed whilst the Coronavirus crisis has restricted our normal lives. However, the District Council are planning to re-open them on a phased basis, with new social distancing and hygiene…

BOUNDARY REVIEW OF DISTRICT COUNCIL SEATS I have made a personal submission to the Boundary Commission's Consultation, making the point that Eling and Marchwood are two entirely different settlements, with Eling being much more connected to Totton. It would seem strange, lumping the two communities together, even if it means Councillors representing the same number…

Four New Forest towns named on Aldi’s development hit-list

ALDI FOR TOTTON? Well done to one of our local newspapers for spotting Aldi has Totton on the list for potential development sites. I have to say, I am not at all sure where it could be located. Eling wharf was once identified as a potential supermarket site, but now that it's owned by Associated…

The proposed reduction in the numbers of Councillors on New Forest District Council will result in a new “Marchwood & Eling” ward (represented by two Councillors). We will also lose “Totton East” as the Testwood area is moved into expanded other Totton wards. I don’t know how residents in Eling… More
