CAR PARKING CHARGES ; "A FINE MESS"
If the Conservatives are getting it in the neck now…. just wait until next year.
Will you be rushing out to buy a Long Stay Parking clock from the District Council, which the Conservatives claim represents "excellent value" ? …. it will set you back £120.
Of course this is on top of the Council tax you pay and all the other taxes associated with motoring.
I think it quite likely that anybody buying a parking clock might be a tad disappointed if it turns out they can't park in any of the Totton town centre car parks, despite having paid.
There are no plans to provide more spaces. What I think will happen is that there will be an early morning rush to secure what free spaces there are on Town Council owned spaces, thereafter it will be a case of everyone else paying for car parking with no guarantees that there will be spaces for clock holders.
My County Council contacts have told me that the resources at Hampshire County Council for undertaking things like making Traffic Regulation Orders, preventing people from parking in nearby residential roads, are now practically non existent as a result of years of Tory cuts and so a perfect storm awaits.
I think they have already lost the vote of local business owners, particularly the retailers. It's sad because this policy is unique in one way…. it upsets business people, residents, community volunteers, motorists and even the people who decide to buy a parking clock.
One of the first jobs of any new political administration will be to sort out this fine mess.

LOVE THESE RAILINGS One of the most attractive and distinctive features of Eling that you can still find are these beautiful metal railings. Sadly, most of these have been lost with the passage of time. Usually, they are replaced by something much blander and of less heritage value. I might be alone, but I have…
Traffic hotspot to get road bridge built over level crossing
BRIDGE TO REPLACE CROSSING I am grateful to Councillor Dave Hills for flagging this up via the "Waterside Community Railway" Facebook Page. A lot of people will be asking, why cannot Totton have a bridge? It shows that it can be done, if the political will is there. Depending on where the bridge is located,…

REDUCTION IN COUNCILLOR NUMBERS LEADS TO STRANGE BOUNDARIES The Electoral Commission has published a report detailing recommendations following the decision to reduce the number of Councillors from 60 to 48 on New Forest District Council. This is a piece of work that I initiated some years ago. I always felt that there were simply more…

NEW COUNTRY PARK I am unashamedly sharing my vision for something positive that we could see happen here, if only there is sufficient political will to make it so. At this time, we all need something positive to focus on, so here goes…. I think we should create "Win Win" Country Park, located on coastal…
