Some interesting conversations in Marchwood today, whilst going out and about to deliver my Annual Report.
A lot of people expressing unhappiness with bus services.
It remains expensive and not nearly so frequent as it used to be.
Conservatives always argued that competition would provide the best possible bus services both in terms of quality and value.
The experience has been rather different.
Most bus companies have been driven out of business by larger operators who then service an area from a monopoly position with “profit” uppermost in their mind, rather than providing a service to the public.
Sadly, my ability to influence bus companies to provide even basic services is greatly diminished now that Hampshire County Conservatives have virtually removed all bus subsidies.
There are now parts of the New Forest that have no services at all.

TRADING PLACES Still no news on whether the government has managed to strike a deal with the EU, which is especially important when it comes to keeping a large part of our trading arrangements. At one time, the government were claiming that we were going to get a great deal with the USA, which would…
OLD MAN, HORSE & BREAD Amongst the phone calls I received today, there was a lady who was kind enough to call me from Bournemouth. She had been to Holmsley in the New Forest and had witnessed an old man, with his grandson, feeding a loaf of bread to a New Forest pony. She thought…
THUNDERBIRDS ARE GO The Thunderbirds theme tune is a truly great piece of music and very well performed here by the band of the Hampshire Constabulary. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hUPcvbq_5FQ&feature=youtu.be
