BOUNDARY REVIEW OF DISTRICT COUNCIL SEATS

I have made a personal submission to the Boundary Commission's Consultation, making the point that Eling and Marchwood are two entirely different settlements, with Eling being much more connected to Totton.

It would seem strange, lumping the two communities together, even if it means Councillors representing the same number of people.

I think it would be best to have a little less equality of numbers of residents represented, but for the Councillors elected for Marchwood, to represent Marchwood only and not a new "Marchwood & Eling ward".

I see that the New Forest Conservatives have made a submission. This disappoints me. Although they are entitled to do so, I don't think that a review of ward boundaries should ever be considered on a party political basis.

No party should seek to gain advantage from changes. It is about making sure democracy works best for the voters.

Still, whatever they decide to do, it looks as though the initiative that I started several years ago will result in a saving of some £78,000 a year to local taxpayers – funnily enough just short of an MP's salary.

BUSINESS DOMINATED WATERSIDE In my nightmares, I have a vision of Totton and the Waterside being completely dominated by business interests, at cost to the environment and the people that live here. Secure cycle parking is vital to getting more people on bikes

NEEDED IN TOTTON I very much agree with the need to provide secure cycle parking facilities. In particular, Totton train station has one of the worst records in the UK for cycle thefts. It's a huge barrier to anyone thinking of leaving an expensive bike there, whilst taking the train. On the planned list of…
