Bargate Surprise

Bargate Southampton
Bargate Southampton

It has been a few months since I walked along Above Bar, Southampton and so was quite surprised at the change in the skyline.

The very large buildings with the front facing shops and shopping mall has gone.

Somehow, it has enhanced the appearance of the Bargate itself.

My grandad, (long since passed on) used to drive a tram through the building, so I feel a sense of connection to it.

The City of Southampton has undergone some amazing changes in my lifetime, although I still think planners were wrong in not making enough of it’s history with the sea and providing enough public access to it.
