As If Things Weren’t Bad Enough….
I have just received notification from a Senior Highways Manager that Hampshire County Council is now being forced to spend a huge amount of time and money making preparations for dealing with Brexit and the strong possibility of lorries diverting towards Portsmouth and forming long queues on our motorway network.
I don’t yet know what the cost of this will be. Government haven’t apparently yet agreed to cover the costs.
The Council has no choice because we are now so near the deadline for leaving without any clear idea of what deal (if any) will be secured.
This additional cost and transferring of resources away from an already depleted highways department will be in addition to the 120 police officers that will be needed to deal with the developing situation.
One can only imagine the impact this is having on businesses that rely on the current free flow of trade with Europe.
You just have to ask your self… at what point do you decide that Brexit (as most people imagined it to be) is still worth it?
