£500m fund fuels hopes that Hampshire rail route will reopen – 50 years after it closed to passengers

OH, MY KNOCKERS…

Another useful bit of publicity for the ongoing campaign to restore the passenger service along the Waterside railway line.

The comments section of the Echo website is always hilarious. The trolls that inhabit it would never, in a million years, spend any time doing anything useful for the community… but of course, from a level of complete ignorance about the amount of time and effort those that do undertake work, they just knock.

I think it is all the worse because these people cannot be identified. They just abuse the forum to say really nasty things about all sorts of people, knowing that they will never have to justify what they have said, or be held to account.

Of course, people like myself develop a thick skin. It's worse for some of their other targets.

TOTTON COUNCIL SUPPORTS ANTI-RACISM I attended the first ever meeting of Totton & Eling Town Council that was held "Virtually", using Zoom software. As the meeting got underway, I told the Chairman that we were doing so at the same time as about a thousand people in nearby Southampton were peacefully protesting about racism. I…

TENNIS RETURN Yesterday, I played tennis for an hour at the fantastic Totton & Eling Tennis Centre (You can pay and play without being a member for £8). I used to play regularly. The remarkable thing about this was that I have not played for 40 years! I thought I might be a bit rusty.…

EARLY JULY TARGET? I would like to see the Totton & Eling Market & Car-Boot restarted now that open-air markets are permitted. I think it should be possible for the Town Council to restart the Market on Sunday 5th July. I have asked the Town Clerk to consider this in consultation with other members. There…

NFDC plans £5m move for Claymeadow depot in Totton

CLAYMEADOW DEPOT I think residents in Hounsdown will broadly welcome the closure of the Claymeadow depot and its' relocation elsewhere. There has always been a level of noise nuisance which residents have put up with over the years. However, the best reason to re-locate the site is to remove lorry movements along Jacobs Gutter Lane,…

FACEBOOK FUNNY This post, from a Totton resident, wins my monthly award for "Things that made me laugh". I have absolutely no idea whether it was intended to be a serious question, perhaps even prompted by some strange bubbling noises in Goldcrest Lane? However, I needed a bit of cheering up after listening to the…
