Dear Councillor Harrison,
We would like to suggest that the old Woolworths building in Totton be used for a Library and Cafe.

Thank you for your suggestion. The idea had occurred to me to! In fact I suggested as much to Hampshire County Council before they closed the existing library for refurbishment. They dont seem interested, probably because of the cost involved. Why does Totton have to put up with a small building that hasnt changed since it was built over 50 years ago? If you look at the wonderful libraries and Discovery Centres in other parts of Hampshire, you cant help but think we are being short-changed once again.

Dear David,
My wife and I have only recently moved to Totton from Reading. We have always voted Labour but never see or hear from a Labour Councillor. We cant help but notice how active you are. Would voting for you only help the Tories?
Residents, Salisbury Road
David Replies,
Quite the reverse actually! There are no Labour Councillors anywhere in Totton or the New Forest District. In the whole of Hampshire, there are only four Labour County Councillors. They could hold their meetings in a broom cupboard. The Liberal Democrats are the strong opposition party in this area.

Dear Cllr. Harrison,
I do thank you for the regular Focus newsletters and the chance to attend your surgeries. I might consider switching my vote to you this time but what does your party stand for locally?
Residents, Testwood Lane
David Replies,
Thank you for writing. Our recent budget proposals set out our plans for low tax, in fact a zero increase at Town, District and County level. We found that all three authorities could safely use up some reserves to give people a break this year. Apart from that, we share a vision for a Safer, Greener and Fairer Totton, in all sorts of ways. You can find more details by visiting my web-site www.dharrison.org.uk

COUNCILLOR HARRISON,
Im sick of you always knocking the Conservatives. I have voted Tory all my life and probably will do to the day I die. I think you spend too much time trying to find fault with those that have the job of running things. Negative campaigning is turning people off politics,
RB, Hounsdown
David Replies,
Thank you for comments. I dont expect to win friends everywhere. Im Leader of the opposition on New Forest District Council and it is actually my job to challenge the conservative administration!
I think it is also important that the public know when money is being wasted, it is they that fund it. Good democracy requires a very effective opposition. I wont apologise if it seems Im very effective.

Dear Councillor Harrison,
I read from your Annual report that you have used your community grants budget to support two churches in Totton. I will never vote Liberal Democrat again.
Mr H, Compton Road, Totton
David Replies,
Thanks for writing. Actually the money was spent towards providing a disabled access to a community facility to the rear of Testwood Baptist church. Volunteers at the church are doing some magnificent work in the field of youth work, catering for up to 80 young people a night. A further grant was for a similar purpose, helping support the Tower Project, an organisation that provides a safe and secure environment for young people to mix. Im sure both organisations would welcome a visit from you if you would like to see the community work they do for yourself.
