Rest In Peace John Dawson
I am saddened to report that former Liberal Democrat, Town, District and County Councillor, John Dawson passed away last night.
John had a huge influence on the community of Totton.
He served as Chairman of Totton & Eling Town Council for many, many years.
All around the Town, you can see tangible evidence of some of the things he achieved, from the ironwork sculpture outside the library and various community buildings.
John was a former employee of Hampshire County Council who headed up the Social Services department.
He recruited many people, (including myself) to the Liberal Democrat cause and was largely responsible for helping shape Totton during all those years of significant growth, especially during the 1980/90’s.
As a new Forest District Councillor, John was in charge of the Leisure and Culture portfolio, overseeing many projects, including Health Centre provision.
He was also a respected spokesman for the opposition on Social Services at Hampshire County Council.
Right up until his passing, John showed an interest in community affairs and was a Trustee of the Three Score Club, in Totton.
My sincere condolences to his family and friends.
Totton has lost one of the most influential citizens who will long be remembered for making a significant positive difference to Totton, to the New Forest District and to the County of Hampshire.

I was shocked to find out that the Tory run New Forest District Council is now spending annually up to £700,000 of taxpayer’s money on putting up people in temporary housing, such as Bed & Breakfast accommodation in Travelodge Hotels.
