I held a Street Surgery at Cockley Down roundabout, Ashurst Bridge, Totton, this evening.Posted by Administrator
My first visitors were a group of three lads on bikes. They had seen my leaflet and had decided to tell me about concerns they had with safety of the roundabout itself. Apparently, one of them had been knocked off his bike by a car that had shot across the roundabout. He suggested that the lines on approach be re-painted.
I told them that I too thought there was a problem at this roundabout. I’m not sure if only painting white lines is the only answer. I think we need to look at ways of encouraging motorists to slow down on approach to the roundabout. I thanked them and agreed I would get the highway engineers to look at it and suggest the best means of tackling the problem.
Another resident told me that there are still a few motorists travelling the wrong way into Rushington Lane (over the railway bridge), ignoring the no entry signs. Apparently, signage is faded and overgrown with vegetation. I will get it looked at.
As I was about to leave from a relatively quite surgery, another resident approached just to say how happy he was and that he was appreciative of all my work! I got a similar call from a resident of Marchwood this evening..... I must be doing something right!
