Sylvia Crescent in Totton is going under the spotlight. County Councillor, David Harrison, was almost overwhelmed with complaints from residents in Sylvia Crescent at a recent Street Surgery, held in Testwood.

He says “I had more people attend this surgery than any other in recent weeks. A significant number of issues raised were about problems in Sylvia Crescent. These ranged from the poor state of the road and pavements, flooding problems, pavement parking, traffic chaos at the junction with Salisbury Road and damage to verges.”

Councillor Harrison has already visited the area with a Senior Highway Engineer. The road will be repaired and the drainage problems attended to.
Consideration will be given to extending parking restrictions at the junction with Salisbury Road. Also, traffic wardens have been tasked to enforce present parking restrictions in the service road to the nearby parade of shops, as well as issuing penalty notices to illegal pavement parkers.

Councillor Harrison has reported an illegal overnight lorry parking to the licensing authorities and has also asked that the sequence of the traffic lights, in Salisbury Road that has led to tail-backs and difficulties for traffic emerging from Sylvia Crescent to be re-examined.

Councillor Harrison says “It seems clear that a package of measures are needed to improve the quality of life for the residents of Sylvia Crescent. Hopefully, most of the items raised can now be sorted out. It does underline the value of holding Street Surgeries”.
