A lot of people have asked what is going to happen about the outstanding cases of election fraud, being pursued by the Crown Prosecution Service, against the thirty or so, (mainly) Tory MP’s who will now be fighting their seats once again this year.

It relates mostly to the use of a “battlebus” and putting up helpers in local hotels, where they targeted particular seats, (often Lib Dem ones).

The Tories described this local campaigning as a national expense and the costs were not shown in any local election returns, even though they should have been.

It’s thought that the Tory MP’s will all get off the hook, because they signed the election expenses form saying that it was accurate “to the best of their knowledge and belief”.

Of course, the voters in these constituencies may take a less kindly view of what they have done.

If anyone is prosecuted, it will most likely be the Agents for the individual elections. The Tory party won’t worry too much about that….
