All bitter and twisted… me? Okay. so I didn’t get close to getting elected as the Member of Parliament for the New Forest East constituency.

It proves the theory that General Elections under a first past the post system are largely about a binary choice between Tory and Labour, with only these two parties getting 90% of the media coverage.

It explains why Labour came second, even here, where they have no local Councillors and never campaign outside elections.

What a very strange outcome.

Who could have imagined that so many people would have rallied the Labour party, led by Jeremy Corbyn, as the attractive “Time for a change” option?

It does seem to confirm that many of us have lost faith in austerity as a policy.

It’s ironic that the first loosening of the purse strings comes about to pay a bung to 10 Northern Irish MP’s.

The Tories are now severely weakened.

I expect we will see another General Election soon.

I think there will be deep unhappiness at the deal done with the DUP.

A friend has joked that we have gone from a “Hung Parliament” to a “Bung Parliament”!

When you look at your payslip and see the deduction headed “N.I.” it could just as easily mean “Northern Ireland” as “National Insurance”.
